A look at the work of Rachel Hammer. Her student work at Saddleback College, and Cal State Fullerton University. As well as her personal photography, projects, and experiences in life.
The human mind is a complex and bewitching thing. Thoughts and feeling are passing each other at lightning speeds. As humans, we want to make order of the chaos around us. I have found through my creation of art, order in my chaos. Instead of trying to control it, art helps to funnel chaos into a frozen image.
A old Cannon Rebel X, single-lens reflex camera, is my instrument of art. It has seen cold bleak mountains transform into a symphony of colors by the rising sun. The once polished black body is dull and chipped. Its strap is stained from the red iron dirt, of once booming gold rush towns; now only ghosts, alone in the hills. Old rusty tin cans and half alive scrub become actors in the lens, with the light directing the scene.
There is nothing like seeing the world through someone else's eyes. Photography allows anyone to share their view of the world, with the world. Its just another tool to make sense of our own chaotic world, and perhaps freeze it long enough to appreciate it.
